Akpan Loses Manager As Reading Sacks Nigel Adkins

Super Eagles midfielder Hope Akpan will soon be working under a new manager as Nigel Adkins was sacked as manager of FReading on Monday after the 6-1
thrashing by Birmingham which left the Royals in 16th place in the Championship.
A statement on Reading’s website on Monday afternoon confirmed that Adkins, who took over at the Madejski Stadium in March 2013, has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
“The club met with Nigel in person today and we would like to place on permanent record our thanks to him for his hard work and diligence since his appointment in March 2013,” read the statement.
“Following this weekend’s 6-1 defeat at Birmingham, the board feel that a change in manager is necessary, with the club 16th in the Championship.
“As part of this process, assistant manager, Andy Crosby, and first-team coach, Dean Wilkins, will also be leaving the club, and we would also like to thank them for their efforts.
“The board of Reading Football Club are committed to taking this club forward and will make a further announcement to our supporters in due course.”
Adkins, who saw Reading miss out on the play-offs last season on the final day, has guided his side to just one win from their last five matches. The former Southampton manager posted a message on Twitter on Monday morning apologising for Saturday’s defeat at St Andrews but appeared set on staying in his role.
“Good morning Yes bad result on Sat. Read your messages reflecting over weekend. Embracing challenge to turn it around. WE can do it together,” Adkins wrote.
Presently, Hapoel are third on the league table with 25 points from 13 games
